Angel Step is a step counter for iPhone that refuses to be a fitness app. It shows one number — today's steps, read from Apple Health — on a sky that changes as you walk, and a widget puts the same number on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen. There is no race, no leaderboard, no workout and no map: it is built for a walk that clears your head. Free on the App Store since 29 September 2026. Everything below may be used in coverage of Angel Step.

The story, if you need one
Most step apps try to make you walk more by turning it into a contest: rings to close, friends to beat, a red streak to save. Angel Step starts from the other end. A walk under a big sky is one of the simplest ways to clear your head, and an app that keeps score of you undoes part of that. So it keeps one number and lets the sky do the rest: the clouds open as the day's steps add up, and the goal is a number you chose rather than one handed to you.
What it leaves out is the point: no workouts, training plans or heart-rate zones; no GPS maps; no global leaderboards; no charts with axes to analyze yourself with; no streak alarms and no notifications begging you to come back. You can invite someone with a code, and when they take their first walk a sky opens for both of you — with no names and no scores. More on what it is, and what it isn't.
