StepsApp vs Pedometer++

StepsApp and Pedometer++ are the two most-rated step counters on the US App Store, and on paper they look alike. Both are free to download, rated 4.8, sell optional upgrades, and put your steps in widgets on the home screen and the lock screen. They part ways in three places: what else they do, how they treat Apple Watch, and what their privacy labels declare. Everything below was read off the App Store on .

What their 1–2 star reviews are about

From our open set of App Store reviews: the reviews the store shows first, not a random sample, so read the shares as a direction rather than a measurement. Pedometer++ has far more of them in the set (247 against 53), which makes its numbers the steadier of the two.

A review can mention more than one theme, so a column doesn't add up to 100%. Why two counters can disagree at all is on why step counts differ.

Which one, for what

If you wear an Apple Watch, Pedometer++ is the one built around it: a watch app with complications for the face. That is also where its unhappy reviews gather, so read the newest ones for your watch model first.

If you want to walk against friends, StepsApp has the leaderboards, groups and challenges. Pedometer++'s listing doesn't describe any.

If tracking is the deciding question, Pedometer++'s label has no tracking section and StepsApp's does. Both still list third-party advertising as a purpose. The privacy labels of nineteen step counters put the two next to the rest.

If you only want to know your steps, you may not need either. The iPhone counts them on its own, and the Health app shows the total: Browse on iOS 27, or Search on iOS 26, then Activity, then Steps. What these apps add is the widget, the goal and the streak. Where your steps already are shows the path.

A third option, ours

Angel Step is a different kind of step counter, and we make it. It shows one number, the total Apple Health already holds, on a sky that changes as you walk. It sits in free widgets on the home screen and the lock screen. There are no ads, no account and no leaderboards, and its privacy label has no tracking section. It is iPhone only, needs iOS 26 or later, and is new: one rating so far. If you want everything StepsApp or Pedometer++ does, pick one of them. If you want less, that is what we built.
