Angel Step

Xiaomi Smart Band steps not showing in Apple Health

Your Xiaomi Smart Band doesn't write to Apple Health — the Mi Fitness app on your iPhone does. Xiaomi's support pages say you turn on Health inside the app and pick the data to sync, allow Mi Fitness to write in Health itself, and then give it a little time to show up. So steps that are on the band but missing from Health usually mean one of the two switches is off, or the sync hasn't landed yet. And when Health shows a different number than the band, it is usually not a missing sync but Health choosing which source to believe.

How the steps get there

The band syncs to the Mi Fitness app over Bluetooth; Mi Fitness then writes to Health. It is the same app everywhere — “Mi Fitness (Xiaomi Wear Lite)” on the US, Japanese and Korean App Store, 小米運動健康 in Taiwan. You choose in the app which data it sends.

Steps are on the band, but not in Health

Health shows a different number than the band

Your iPhone counts steps too, whenever it is in your pocket. When two sources record the same minutes, Health doesn't add them up; Apple says the source at the top of the list wins, and a newly added app goes above the iPhone automatically. If the order was changed later and the iPhone is on top, Health shows the phone's count, not the band's. To put the band first: in Health open Steps, scroll down to Data Sources & Access, tap Edit, drag Mi Fitness to the top, and tap Done. The rest of this is on why step counts differ.

Pikmin Bloom doesn't see the band's steps

Niantic says Pikmin Bloom on iPhone reads steps from Health. So the band's steps have to reach Health first; check that, then Pikmin Bloom's own permission, as in Pikmin Bloom steps not counting.

Where Angel Step fits

We make Angel Step, so take this as ours. It reads your step count from Health and puts today's number on your Home Screen and Lock Screen as a widget. With Mi Fitness at the top of the Steps sources, that number is your band's count — as fresh as Mi Fitness's last sync.

Questions

Can a Xiaomi Smart Band sync with Apple Health?

Yes, through the Mi Fitness app on the iPhone. Xiaomi says to turn on Health under Profile, then Third-party data, in the app and select the data items to sync, then allow Mi Fitness to write steps in Health.

Why are my Mi Band steps not showing in Apple Health?

Usually one of two switches is off: Health sync inside Mi Fitness, or Steps for Mi Fitness in Health, under your profile picture, then Apps. Xiaomi also says the data takes a while to appear after a sync, and that Low Power Mode restricts the app's background activity.

Why does Apple Health show different steps than my band?

When the iPhone and the band both record steps, Health keeps the source at the top of its list instead of adding them. Open Steps in Health, go to Data Sources & Access, tap Edit and move Mi Fitness to the top.
