One total eclipse, three continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. On August 2, 2027, the Moon covers the Sun completely along a path from Cádiz and Gibraltar through Tangier, Oran, Benghazi and Luxor to Jeddah and Mecca; of these cities, totality is longest at Luxor, Egypt: 6 min 25 s. The eclipse cannot be seen from the United States. Below: totality and local times city by city, the cities just outside the path, the next eclipses for US cities, and a calculator for any place.

### Just outside the path

Seville and Aswan lie just outside the path: 98% and 99.8% of the Sun covered, with no totality. Further away, the eclipse is partial; the share is of the Sun's disk covered at the maximum.

August 2, 2027 outside the path: share of the Sun covered and time of maximum, local time

### Can you see it from the USA?

The eclipse cannot be seen from the United States: the Moon's shadow misses North America. The next solar eclipse seen across the US is the partial one of January 14, 2029: 41% of the Sun covered in New York and 71% in Seattle; Miami gets totality on August 12, 2045. In August 2044 the eclipse comes on the evening of August 22, local time.

Next solar eclipses from US cities and Toronto: share of the Sun covered (— not visible)

| City | Jan 2028 | Jan 2029 | Aug 2044 | Aug 2045 |
| New York | 3% | 41% | — | 51% |
| Chicago | 1% | 58% | — | 71% |
| Miami | 16% | 24% | — | total |
| Houston | 14% | 45% | — | 84% |
| Denver | 6%, at sunrise | 64% | 74%, at sunset | 99.9% |
| Seattle | — | 71% | 96% | 76% |

### Any place, any of these eclipses

Enter your latitude and longitude (west is negative). Times start in this device's time zone; choose another to see them on a different clock.

Total: 6 min 25 s of totality

100% of the Sun covered at most

Without JavaScript, the example above is Luxor, Egypt, in UTC+3. The calculation stops at the horizon: if the Sun rises or sets during the eclipse, only the part above the horizon is counted.

### How to watch safely

NASA's advice: look at the partial phases only through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer that meets the ISO 12312-2 standard; regular sunglasses, however dark, are not safe. Only during totality, when no part of the bright Sun is left, can you look without them, and the glasses go back on as soon as the Sun starts to reappear. Without glasses, a pinhole in a card projects the Sun onto the ground; look at the projection, not through the hole. In a partial or annular eclipse there is no safe moment without protection.

### How it is worked out

The positions of the Sun and the Moon are calculated for each place, seen from that exact spot on the Earth's surface. Every city here is checked against NASA's own eclipse calculator code run on the same coordinates; city coordinates are Wikipedia's, and local times follow the IANA time zone database, which records that Morocco moved to permanent UTC on September 20, 2026: Tangier's clock is not an hour ahead in August 2027.

### Where Angel Step fits

Angel Step reads only your step count from Apple Health and shows it as one number on a living sky. It does not predict eclipses; that is this page's job. The walk to a good viewing spot counts, though.
