A lunar eclipse is the same moment for everyone who can see the Moon; whether you see it depends only on the Moon being above your horizon. All three lunar eclipses of 2027 are penumbral, on February 20, July 18 and August 17: the Moon only passes through the Earth's faint outer shadow and dims slightly. From the United States, the August 17 eclipse peaks at 3:14 a.m. Eastern time. Below: every lunar eclipse to 2030, what eight North American cities see, and a calculator for any place.

### Every lunar eclipse, 2027 to 2030

Dates and the time of greatest eclipse in US Eastern time, with the regions NASA lists as seeing it. A penumbral eclipse is easy to miss; a partial one darkens part of the Moon; in a total one the whole Moon is inside the Earth's dark shadow.

Lunar eclipses 2027–2030: date and greatest eclipse in US Eastern time, and where NASA says they are seen

| Date | Type | Greatest | Seen from |
| Feb 20, 2027 | penumbral | 6:13 p.m. | Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia |
| Jul 18, 2027 | penumbral | 12:03 p.m. | eastern Africa, Asia, Australia, Pacific |
| Aug 17, 2027 | penumbral | 3:14 a.m. | Pacific, Americas |
| Jan 11, 2028 | partial | 11:13 p.m. | Americas, Europe, Africa |

| Dec 9, 2030 | penumbral | 5:28 p.m. | Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia |

### What North American cities see

From the United States, the August 17 eclipse peaks at 3:14 a.m. Eastern time; the first eclipse that darkens part of the Moon is the partial one on the night of January 11, 2028 (greatest at 11:13 p.m. Eastern time), and the next total lunar eclipse seen whole across the eastern and central US is the night of June 25, 2029 (greatest at 11:22 p.m. Eastern time). “Whole” means the Moon is up from start to end; “rises” means it comes up after the eclipse has begun, “sets” that it goes down before the end.

US cities and Toronto: how much of each eclipse is above the horizon (— not visible)

| City | Aug 2027 | Jan 2028 | Jun 2029 | Dec 2029 |
| New York | whole | whole | whole | rises |
| Chicago | whole | whole | whole | rises |
| Miami | whole | whole | whole | rises |
| Houston | whole | whole | whole | rises |
| Denver | whole | whole | rises | rises |
| Seattle | whole | whole | rises | rises |
| Los Angeles | whole | whole | rises | — |
| Toronto | whole | whole | whole | rises |

### Any place, any of these eclipses

Total eclipse

Without JavaScript, the example above is New York in UTC−4 for June 25–26, 2029. Hills, buildings and clouds are not counted.

### How it is worked out

The moments, the type and size of each eclipse and the regions are NASA's (Espenak and Meeus). The height of the Moon for each place is this page's own calculation, checked against NASA's eclipse code run for the same cities.

### Where Angel Step fits

Angel Step reads only your step count from Apple Health and shows it as one number on a living sky. It does not predict eclipses; that is this page's job. A total eclipse is a good reason for a late walk.
